About Jasminum multiflorum (Burm.f.) Andrews
Jasminum multiflorum (Burm.f.) Andrews, commonly called star jasmine, is a jasmine species belonging to the Oleaceae family. In Indian mythology, this plant is called Kund, and is known for its white color. Instead of the common western phrase "white as snow", Hindu mythological stories often use the phrase "white as kunda". Beautiful white teeth are also frequently compared to Kunda buds. This species is considered especially sacred to the deity Vishnu. In Manipur, Kundo flowers (the flowers of this plant) are used for worship, and are an essential part of traditional marriage ceremonies. During the ceremony, the bride garlands the groom with two Kundo flower garlands, and the groom then takes one of the two garlands to place on the bride. Jasminum multiflorum is native to India, Nepal, Bhutan, Laos, Burma, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. While most jasmine species are known for their attractive, intensely fragrant flowers, this species has no scent. It has been reported to be naturalised in Florida, Chiapas, Central America, Queensland, and most of the West Indies.
