About Ixos mcclellandii (Horsfield, 1840)
Ixos mcclellandii, commonly known as the mountain bulbul, is a species of songbird in the bulbul family Pycnonotidae. It is frequently classified under the genus Hypsipetes, but current research indicates it is evolutionarily closer to the Sunda bulbul, the type species of the genus Ixos. This species is named for John McClelland, a surgeon with the British East India Company. The IUCN does not classify Ixos mcclellandii as a threatened species. Its range extends across Southeast Asia, stretching from the Indian subcontinent and southern China, through Indochina, to the Malay Peninsula. Its natural habitat is broadleaved evergreen forest found at elevations between 800 meters and 2590 meters above sea level.
