About Ixora pavetta Andrews

Ixora pavetta, commonly known as the torch tree, is a plant species belonging to the family Rubiaceae. This species is native to South Asia, and is commonly found in the Ballari district of Karnataka, India. In the past, village people used the tree's branches mixed with mud to build walls for thatched huts. This practice is now obsolete, due to the increased use of modern housing materials. Ixora pavetta bears fruit in summer. Its fruits are globose, contain two seeds each, and turn black when fully ripe. Indian sloth bears feed on the fruits of this species, and the seeds are dispersed through the bears' feces.
