About Ixia stricta (Eckl. ex Klatt) G.J.Lewis
Ixia stricta is a perennial flowering geophyte that belongs to the genus Ixia and is a component of fynbos vegetation. This species is endemic to the Western Cape, where its distribution extends from Houwhoek to Bredasdorp. It occupies a total range of 2188 square kilometers. The species has lost most of its original habitat to crop cultivation, overgrazing, invasive plants, and uncontrolled veldfires. In the Houwhoek area and Groenlandberg, large portions of its habitat have been destroyed by plantations. All of these threats to Ixia stricta remain ongoing.
