About Isoxya cicatricosa (C.L.Koch, 1844)
Isoxya cicatricosa is a species of spider in the family Araneidae, commonly called the black and white box kite spider. This species has a wide distribution across Central, East, and Southern Africa, as well as Yemen. In South Africa, it has been recorded from six provinces: Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, and Western Cape. It can be found across multiple biomes including Forest, Fynbos, Grassland, Indian Ocean Coastal Belt, Nama Karoo, Savanna, Succulent Karoo, and Thicket, at altitudes between 5 m and 2,799 m above sea level. Isoxya cicatricosa is an orb-web spider. During the day, it resides in large orb-webs, which are typically built high between trees. Its webs are usually decorated with silk tufts.
