This species is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. It is a nocturnal, arboreal animal that lives in lowland evergreen rainforest, and it is probably restricted to igapó and várzea habitats. Individuals can sometimes be spotted at the entrances of their dens, which are most often located in tree holes, particularly hollow palms, along river borders.
