About Isoplectron armatum Hutton, 1896
The body of Isoplectron armatum is light rusty brown, with dark marbling on its dorsal surface. The abdomen and thorax both have dark markings, and its eyes are green. Adult bodies range in length from 8.5 to 16.8 millimeters. This species is only known to occur in New Zealand. It is the most common species in the genus Isoplectron. The subspecies I. a. aciculatum is found south of Taupō in the North Island, while the subspecies I. a. armatum occurs throughout the South Island. During the daytime, individuals of this species hide under tree bark or inside artificial refugia, often gathering in groups of up to ten individuals.
