This moth is found in the United States, where its distribution ranges from New York south to Florida, and west to Colorado and Texas. Adults of this species have a wingspan between 19 and 24 mm. Adult moths are active in flight from June through August each year. The larvae of Isochaetes beutenmuelleri feed on the foliage of oak and beech trees.
