About Ischnocolus valentinus (Dufour, 1820)
Ischnocolus valentinus is a small tarantula that belongs to the Old World. Its distribution includes Spain, Sicily, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Western Sahara. It is the only species of true tarantula that occurs in continental Europe, and when combined with Chaetopelma lymberakisi, it is one of just two true tarantula species found in Europe overall. It serves as the type species for the genus Ischnocolus. This tarantula lives in Mediterranean scrub that contains oaks and bushes, where it hides underneath large, flattish stones.
