Ischnochiton smaragdinus is a chiton species first described by Angas in 1867. This species can grow to a length of approximately 36 millimetres, or 1.4 inches. It is endemic to Australia, found in the southeastern and southwestern parts of the country, specifically in New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, and Western Australia. Individuals of this species live in intertidal and subtidal zones, where they reside under rocks and stones.
