About Iris purdyi Eastw.

Iris purdyi Eastw., commonly called Purdy's iris, is a species of iris named for Carl Purdy. It grows in the redwood forests of California and extends into southern Oregon, which is why it is also known as redwood iris. This plant flowers between April and June. Native Americans traditionally used this plant: outer leaf fibers were harvested as a fiber source to make rope, and its leaves can also be used to produce light tan paper.
