Iresine rhizomatosa is a plant species that belongs to the amaranth family, Amaranthaceae. It is native to the Americas. In the United States, it has a discontinuous, spotty distribution, with populations concentrated in the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains and along the country’s coast. It most commonly grows in open, thin woodland areas over sandy alluvial soil, and is often found growing near rivers or on dunes. It is a rhizomatous perennial plant that produces white flowers during the fall season. This species is dioecious, meaning individual plants produce only male or only female flowers.
