About Ipomopsis polycladon (Torr.) V.E.Grant
Ipomopsis polycladon is a flowering plant species belonging to the phlox family, commonly called manybranched ipomopsis. It is native to most of the western United States and northern Mexico, where it grows in sandy soils, like those found in deserts. This annual herb grows multiple horizontal red stems that extend outward from a short central stem. Leaves grow at the ends of branches and in branch axils. Each leaf is multilobed, mostly green with a frequently red-tipped end, and measures less than 2 centimeters long. Both the stems and leaves are covered in woolly glandular hairs. The long stem branches hold inflorescences made of leaflike bracts that are green with sharp, pointed red tips, plus tiny white flowers just a few millimeters across.
