About Ipomoea muricata (L.) Jacq.
Ipomoea muricata (L.) Jacq. is a fast-growing annual climbing vine. Its flowers are funnel-shaped, and can be white, reddish, or lilac, a color similar to lavender. The stems are twining and muricate. Its leaves are glabrous in texture, and are ovate or orbicular in shape. All parts of this plant are used for food, medicine, and as poison by people living within both its native and expanded introduced range. In the Indian state of Kerala, this plant is known as clove bean or nithya vazhutana. Its swollen peduncles are eaten, most commonly prepared by pan-frying or made into a thoran.
