It has been recorded in West Africa, including Gambia and the riparian forests of Benin, as well as the Northern Territory of Australia. It has become naturalized in many regions across the world, including Taiwan. Observations or collected specimens of this species have been documented in Australia, Belize, Benin, Brunei, Cambodia, Cameroon, China, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Costa Rica, Côte d'Ivoire, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Honduras, Indonesia, Laos, Liberia, Madagascar, Mauritius, the Federated States of Micronesia, Myanmar, New Caledonia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo and Venezuela.
