About Ipomoea macrorhiza Michx.

Ipomoea macrorhiza Michx. is a vigorous vine with stems that can grow up to 20 feet long. It produces large tuberous roots, and its white-and-pink flowers bloom at night. Its leaf shape is highly variable, ranging from triangular to palmate. The plant's seed capsules hold 3 to 5 pubescent seeds. Since this species is rare, it is not widely cultivated. Its roots are edible, and it was historically grown as a food source by Native Americans. I. macrorhiza also has ornamental value thanks to its attractive flowers.
