Ipomoea barbatisepala A.Gray has glabrous, deeply lobed leaves that grow in an alternating arrangement along its stem. Its flowers are blue, or rarely white, with a yellow center, and typically bloom from July to December. Its fruit is a capsule that holds several dark seeds. This species can be distinguished from the similar species Ipomoea hederacea and Ipomoea cardiophylla by its leaf shape. Ipomoea cardiophylla has heart-shaped leaves, and Ipomoea hederacea has three-pointed leaves, while Ipomoea barbatisepala has multi-lobed leaves.
