About Ionolyce helicon (Felder, 1860)
This species is Ionolyce helicon (Felder, 1860). For adults, the dorsal surface of the male is dark purple and lacks any markings. In contrast, the female’s dorsal wing surface is brownish, with a bluish-purple tinge at the wing bases. The ventral surface of both wings of this species is dull greyish-brown, with white striae. There is an eyespot at the tornus that is edged with an orange ring, and the wing has a fine white-tipped tail. The caterpillar of Ionolyce helicon is greenish with pale green markings. Its recorded host plants are Allophylus cobbe and Entada phaseoloides. The pupa is mottled brown with dark markings.
