About Inocybe whitei (Berk. & Broome) Sacc.
This mushroom, Inocybe whitei, is white when young, and later develops reddish stains. Its cap ranges from 2 to 8 centimetres (1 to 3 inches) wide; it starts conical, then becomes convex and eventually flat, with a central umbo. The gills have variable attachment to the stalk. They are pale when young, and darken as the mushroom matures. The spore print of this species is brown. The stalk grows 4โ8 cm long and 0.5โ1 cm thick. The mushroom's flesh has an unpleasant odor often described as spermatic. Its spores are brown, elliptical, and smooth. Inocybe whitei is classified as poisonous, because it contains the compound muscarine.
