About Inocybe fraudans (Britzelm.) Sacc.

Inocybe fraudans, commonly called the pear fibrecap, is an agaric fungus that belongs to the family Inocybaceae. Its cap and stipe are yellowish-brown and fibrillose, and they develop reddish tints as the fungus ages. The flesh has a characteristic odor that resembles jasmine or ripe pears. Like many other species in the genus Inocybe, Inocybe fraudans is suspected to be toxic. This fungus grows in woodlands in Europe and North America. Its fruitbodies produce a walnut-brown spore print, and the spores are smooth, almond-shaped, and measure 8–11.5 by 5–7 μm. Many authors have incorrectly misidentified this species as Inocybe pyriodora.
