About Incilius coccifer (Cope, 1866)

Incilius coccifer, commonly called the southern round-gland toad or southern roundgland toad, is a species of toad belonging to the family Bufonidae. Its distribution extends from southern Mexico, southeast through Central America—covering Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua—to northwestern Costa Rica. Several species that were previously classified under Incilius coccifer have since been recognized as distinct species: these are Incilius porteri, Incilius ibarrai, Incilius pisinnus, and Incilius signifer. This toad's natural habitats are lowland dry and moist forests, and it also lives in disturbed areas including pastures, roadside ditches, gardens, and urban vacant lots.
