About Ilex pedunculosa Miq.

Ilex pedunculosa, commonly known as longstalk holly, is a flowering plant species in the genus Ilex. It is native to central and southern China, Taiwan, and Japan. It grows as a lanky shrub or shrubby tree, and typically reaches 5 meters (16 feet) tall when grown in gardens. It is quite cold hardy, suitable down to USDA zone 5a. Both its specific scientific epithet and common name come from its long peduncle, the stalk that holds its berry. Its red berries are a favored food for birds, and the plant itself is resistant to deer.
