The streak-backed oriole, with the scientific name Icterus pustulatus (Wagler, 1829), is a medium-sized passerine bird that belongs to the icterid family. This family includes many other bird species such as blackbirds, meadowlarks, cowbirds, grackles, and New World orioles. Streak-backed orioles are native to Mexico and Central America, and are occasional visitors to the United States. Specifically, the species is native to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico, and it appears occasionally in the Southwestern United States. Its natural habitats are woodland, savanna, grassland, and shrubland. It prefers open arid woodland, which typically has a strong presence of mimosa.
