The epaulet oriole (Icterus cayanensis) is a bird species that belongs to the Icteridae family. The moriche oriole, which was previously classified as its own distinct species under the name I. chrysocephalus, is now classified as a subspecies of the epaulet oriole. The variable oriole, previously listed as I. pyrrhopterus, was formerly considered to be the same species as the epaulet oriole, but has recently been split into a separate species by the SACC. The epaulet oriole occurs in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, and Suriname. Its natural habitats include subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical swamps, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, and heavily degraded former forest.
