The black-backed oriole, with the scientific name Icterus abeillei, is a bird species that belongs to the Icteridae family. This species is endemic to Mexico. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest, and it can also be found living in cities. It is one of the few species able to consume monarch butterflies, because it has evolved tolerance to the natural poison produced by monarch butterflies.
