About Ichneumon xanthorius Forster, 1771

Ichneumon xanthorius (also referred to as Ichneumon extensorius), commonly known as the yellow-striped Darwin wasp, is a species of wasp belonging to the family Ichneumonidae. It can be found across the whole of Europe. Adult Ichneumon xanthorius feed on nectar from plants in the parsley family, while the species' young are parasites of moth and butterfly larvae. This species was first formally described by German entomologist Georg Forster in 1771, in his published work Novæ species insectorum Centuria I.
