About Hypsipetes borbonicus (J.R.Forster, 1781)

The Réunion bulbul, scientifically named Hypsipetes borbonicus, has a similar appearance to the Mauritius bulbul, but is slightly smaller with a total length of 22 cm. Its body is ashy gray, it has a blackish crest, and its iris is noticeably white. Its bill and feet carry an orange coloration. The Réunion bulbul is primarily frugivorous. It typically inhabits humid secondary forests at higher elevations, and moves from these higher areas to lower valleys in February and March to feed on ripe guavas. Nectar, insects, and small lizards add to its overall diet.
