About Hypselodoris krakatoa Gosliner & R.F.Johnson, 1999
Hypselodoris krakatoa is a species of nudibranch first described by Gosliner & R.F.Johnson in 1999. Its body is pale brown-white, with a purplish-blue foot. Black lines and white spots run in lines across its body and dorsum. The gills are light-brown, while the rhinophores are orange-white. This species can grow to a total length of at least 55 millimeters. The holotype of this nudibranch was collected off the southern point of Culebra (Bonito) Island, Batangas, Luzon, Philippines, from a depth of 25 m (82 ft). The original species description included paratype specimens collected from the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, and Okinawa. It has been recorded across the Western Pacific Ocean, ranging from Japan to Papua New Guinea. Specimens from Taiwan that were originally identified as Hypselodoris krakatoa are now recognized as a separate distinct species, which has been named Hypselodoris cerisae.
