Gastrophryne pictiventris, which has the scientific name Hypopachus pictiventris (Cope, 1886), is a species of frog with the common names Nicaragua narrowmouth toad and southern narrowmouth toad. It belongs to the family Microhylidae. This species occurs in northeastern Costa Rica and southeastern Nicaragua. It inhabits the leaf litter of lowland moist and wet forests. It is difficult to observe except during its explosive breeding events. Breeding occurs in temporary pools. While forest destruction is recognized as a major threat to this species, the species as a whole is not considered threatened.
