About Hypogramma hypogrammicum (S.Muller, 1843)
This species, commonly known as the purple-naped spiderhunter or purple-naped sunbird, is currently classified under the scientific name Kurochkinegramma hypogrammicum, and belongs to the bird family Nectariniidae. It is the only species placed in the genus Kurochkinegramma. Its range covers Southeast Asia, extending from Myanmar to Sumatra and Borneo. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. A 2011 phylogenetic study found that the purple-naped spiderhunter was nested within the genus Arachnothera. A 2017 follow-up study, led by some of the same 2011 authors and using additional sequence data, instead found the purple-naped spiderhunter occupies a basal position relative to the genus Arachnothera. This species was formerly placed in the genus Hypogramma, until researchers discovered that the genus name Hypogramma was already preoccupied within the order Lepidoptera. The original 1843 scientific name published by S. Muller was Hypogramma hypogrammicum.
