About Hypocala deflorata Fabricius, 1794

Full-grown larvae of Hypocala deflorata measure about 45 mm long. The pupa is around 22 mm in length, and has a medium dark brown color. For adult individuals, the head, thorax, and forewings are pale violaceous grey. Hindwings have a large orange area; the marginal black area of the hindwings is reduced, and the two orange spots are conjoined. On the ventral side, the black marking on the forewing is reduced to just two bars, and the black marking on the hindwing is also much reduced. The larvae of this species feed on Diospyros pallens, Diospyros villosa, Diospyros dichrophylla, Diospyros lycioides, Maba sandwicensis, and species in the genera Royena and Sapota.
