About Hyperolius parallelus Günther, 1858
For Central African specimens of Hyperolius parallelus, adult males have a snout–vent length of 30–38 mm (1.2–1.5 in). The tympanum is not visible, and both the head and snout are short. The species' syntypes were dark brown on the dorsal side with three parallel white bands, but dorsal patterning varies widely across individuals. Hyperolius parallelus is distributed across southern Republic of the Congo, southern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola, northern Namibia, northern Botswana, and western Zambia. The exact boundaries of its range are not well understood, and it may also occur in Gabon and Zimbabwe. It inhabits savannas, grasslands, and shrublands, as well as a variety of human-modified habitats including cultivated land, towns, and gardens. It is associated with emergent vegetation growing along the edges of swamps, rivers, and lakes. Reproduction occurs in both temporary and permanent water bodies, and eggs are laid directly into the water.
