The marbled reed frog, also called the painted reed frog (Hyperolius marmoratus Rapp, 1842), is a species of frog in the Hyperoliidae family. It is found in Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. This species occupies a broad variety of natural habitats: forests, savannas, shrublands, grasslands, rivers, swamps, freshwater lakes, and intermittent freshwater lakes. It adapts well to coexisting with humans, and can also be found in pastureland, rural gardens, and urban areas. Its known range is currently expanding into the winter rainfall region of the Western Cape. Members of the genus Hyperolius can show different coloration and patterns between day and night. Their daylight coloration is usually pale and drab, while their night-time appearance is colorful and eye-catching.
