About Hyperolius marginatus Peters, 1854
Hyperolius marginatus is a species of frog belonging to the family Hyperoliidae. It has been officially recorded in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The exact boundaries of its distribution are very uncertain, though, and it is likely that the species also occurs in Burundi and Rwanda. Two common names for this species are margined sedge frog and margined reed frog. This frog lives at the edges of swamps, rivers, and lakes across all types of savanna, grassland, and bush land habitats. It can also be found in many human-modified habitats, including cultivated land, towns, and gardens. It is associated with emergent vegetation. Breeding occurs in a wide variety of ponds, which may be small or large, and temporary or permanent. It is an extremely abundant species that spreads rapidly into newly formed waterbodies. There are no significant threats to this species, and it is known to occur in several protected areas.
