About Hypericum galioides Lam.
Hypericum galioides Lam. is a slender, branching small shrub that reaches up to 1.5 meters (4 feet 11 inches) in height. It produces linear to oblanceolate leaves that are sessile, meaning they attach directly to the stem without a stalk. These leaves measure 15โ37 millimeters (0.59โ1.46 inches) in length and 1โ7 millimeters (0.039โ0.276 inches) across, and most have sharply pointed tips. Its small flowers grow in terminal and axillary cymes, and have very narrow sepals. Each flower is 9โ14 millimeters (0.35โ0.55 inches) in diameter, with 5 bright yellow petals and 60โ120 stamens. This species flowers in summer, between June and August. Its 3-parted fruits are ovoid, and measure 4.5โ6 millimeters (0.18โ0.24 inches) long. Hypericum galioides grows in wet to moist habitats in the coastal plain of the southeastern United States. It has been recorded from North Carolina south to northern Florida, and west to the eastern parts of Texas; most of the Mississippi delta is excluded from its range. Habitat types where it grows include streambanks, swamps, river bottoms, floodplains, lake edges, wet pine forests, and ditches.
