About Hypena deceptalis Walker, 1859

Hypena deceptalis, commonly known as the deceptive hypena or deceptive bomolocha moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Erebidae. This species was first formally described by Francis Walker in 1859. It is distributed in North America, ranging from Manitoba to Quebec, extending southward to Florida and Texas. It is not present across most of the Gulf Coastal Plain. The wingspan of this moth measures 28 to 35 mm. Adults fly from April to August, and there are two generations produced per year. The larvae feed on Tilia americana, but the species has also been recorded outside the native range of Tilia americana, meaning there must be at least one additional host plant for this moth.
