About Hypena bijugalis Walker
Hypena bijugalis, commonly known as the dimorphic bomolocha, dimorphic hypena, or toothed snout-moth, is a moth species that belongs to the family Erebidae. Francis Walker first formally described this species in 1859. This moth is distributed across North America, ranging from Nova Scotia through southern Canada to Vancouver Island, and extending south through the entire United States to Florida. The wingspan of adult Hypena bijugalis measures 24 to 31 mm. Adults of this moth fly from April to September, with the timing varying based on the location. Most eastern regions of its range host two generations per year, and areas further south support more generations each year. The larvae of this species feed on Cornus sericea, and may also feed on other species within the genus Cornus.
