About Hynobius yiwuensis Cai, 1985
Hynobius yiwuensis, commonly known as the Yiwu salamander, is a salamander species in the family Hynobiidae. It is endemic to China, specifically occurring in central and eastern Zhejiang; the species is named after Yiwu, one of the areas within its range. Its natural habitats are subtropical moist lowland forests, rivers, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marshes, arable land, and rural gardens. This species is threatened by habitat loss. Adult males reach a total length of 83โ136 mm (3.3โ5.4 in), while adult females reach a total length of approximately 87โ117 mm (3.4โ4.6 in). The Yiwu salamander is similar to Hynobius chinensis (the Chinese salamander), and to the somewhat larger Hynobius amjiensis (Amji's salamander, also called Zhejiang salamander).
