Hymenaea courbaril, commonly known as courbaril or West Indian locust, is a hardwood tree that is common across the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. When used as lumber, it is frequently processed into furniture, flooring, and decorative items. This tree produces hard fruit pods that contain edible dry pulp surrounding the seeds. Its sap, which is called animé, is used in the production of incense, perfume, and varnish.
