Hylotelephium erythrostictum (Miq.) H.Ohba grows to an average height of 30–70 centimetres (12–28 in). It has simple stems, with opposite, sessile, oblong, succulent leaves that are roughly 5–7 centimetres (2.0–2.8 in) long. It produces flat cymes holding many tiny white or pale pink flowers, each about 1 centimetre (0.39 in) in diameter with lanceolate petals. In the Northern Hemisphere, its flowering period runs from September to October. This species is native to Japan, Korea, Russia, and China. It grows in grasslands, meadows, hillsides, and ravines. It prefers fertile, well-drained soil, and occurs at elevations between 400 metres (1,300 ft) and 1,700 metres (5,600 ft) above sea level.
