About Hyloniscus riparius (C.Koch, 1838)

Hyloniscus riparius is a species of woodlouse that is native to Central and Eastern Europe, and has since been introduced to North America. This species is strongly associated with flood plains, and is able to tolerate being submerged under water for periods of up to eight weeks. In North America, Hyloniscus riparius was first discovered in St. John's, Newfoundland in 1951. It was later recorded in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.
