About Hylomecon vernalis Maxim.

This poppy species, Hylomecon vernalis Maxim., is a perennial plant that spreads through rhizomes, and usually does not grow taller than 30 centimeters. Its leaves are pinnate, and most often have five soft green leaflets. Leaflet counts of three or seven may also occur. Each leaflet has a shape that ranges from lanceolate-oblong to rhombic, and has a clear pattern of teeth along its edges. The flowers are bright yellow, measure 3.5–5 cm across, and begin with a bowl shape that flattens as the flower ages. This species typically grows in moist shaded woodland, where it develops in accumulated humus.
