About Hylogomphus geminatus (Carle, 1979)
Hylogomphus geminatus, commonly called the twin-striped clubtail, is a dragonfly species that belongs to the Gomphidae family. This species is endemic to the southeastern United States, where it lives in small rivers and streams. Hylogomphus geminatus was recently classified as a member of the genus Gomphus. In 2017, the taxon Hylogomphus was raised from the rank of subgenus to full genus, so this species was moved to the genus Hylogomphus. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) currently lists the conservation status of Hylogomphus geminatus as "LC", or least concern. There are no immediate threats to the survival of this species, and its overall population is stable. This IUCN conservation status was most recently reviewed in 2018. Prior to the 2018 assessment, the species had different conservation ratings: it was assessed as "rare" from 1986 to 1994, rated "lower risk/near threatened" in 1996, and rated "near threatened" in 2007. Hylogomphus geminatus has been recorded at around 20 locations across four U.S. states, and each location holds a population of hundreds to thousands of individuals.
