About Hyles livornica Esper, 1780

Hyles livornica has a wingspan of 60–80 mm, with males slightly smaller than females. Its forewings and body are mainly olive brown or beige, marked with white stripes. Hindwings are pink, with black and white edges. The head and thorax are olive-brown, with white stripes. The olive-brown abdomen has black-and-white segments, and the first two abdominal segments bear large black and white side spots. Antennae are dark olive brown with white tips. These moths fly from February to October, with flight timing varying by location. In Europe, they produce two generations, and can be seen from April to June and from August to September, and they sometimes overwinter. This species is a migrant that travels from Africa to Europe. The caterpillars are green with black markings, and reach a length of 65 to 80 millimeters. This species is distributed across Africa, southern Europe, Poland, Australia, and central and east Asia.
