About Hylaeus nigritus (Fabricius, 1798)

Hylaeus nigritus (Fabricius, 1798), commonly called the black masked bee, is average sized when compared to other species in the genus Hylaeus. Its body length ranges from 8 to 10 millimeters. Males of this species are mostly black, and have a distinctively white face, while females are entirely black. Confirmed sightings of the black masked bee span across Europe and extend into Russia, and preserved study specimens of the species have been collected from the Caucasus. Little is currently known about this species' specific habitat preferences or behavioral traits.
