About Hydrophyllum tenuipes A.Heller
This species, Hydrophyllum tenuipes A.Heller, grows solitary stems with alternate leaves that can reach up to 15 centimeters (5.9 inches) in both length and width. Leaves are divided into five to nine segments. Flowers are arranged in numerous clusters on stalks that grow from the upper leaf axils. Bloom color ranges from greenish-white to lavender, and flowering occurs from mid to late spring. Five prominent stamens extend beyond the five petals, reaching a total length more than twice that of the petals. The margins of the sepals are covered in bristles. Hydrophyllum tenuipes grows in shady locations at low to mid elevations, often growing closely alongside Tolmiea menziesii (Youth on Age), another species that blooms during the same time period. Ecologically, Hydrophyllum tenuipes spreads via rhizomes to form large colonies in wooded areas. It grows best in moist, well-drained soils.
