Hydrophyllum canadense L., commonly called bluntleaf waterleaf, broadleaf waterleaf, or Canada waterleaf, is native to eastern United States and Canada. The genus Hydrophyllum belongs to the plant family Hydrophyllaceae. Hydrophyllum is a genus endemic to North America, and Hydrophyllum canadense is one of its ten recognized species. Within this genus, Hydrophyllum canadense can be identified across its native range by a consistent set of features: it is a perennial plant, its stem leaves are palmately lobed, its sepals have no appendages or have appendages less than 0.5 mm long, and its stamens are exserted 3–6 mm.
