About Hydrocotyle verticillata Thunb.

Hydrocotyle verticillata Thunb., commonly called whorled pennywort, whorled marshpennywort, or shield pennywort, is a flowering plant native to North America, South America, and the West Indies. Its common names come from its creeping growth habit and distinctive unusual leaves. This species grows in marshy, boggy, and other wet environments. It is used in aquariums, where it is easy to care for. It prefers a high-quality substrate and at least moderate lighting, and benefits from added carbon dioxide in aquarium settings. It is widely used as a foreground aquarium plant.
