About Hydrobasileus croceus (Brauer, 1867)
Hydrobasileus croceus is a large reddish-brown dragonfly with golden-amber tinted wings. Its eyes are reddish-brown on the upper half and yellowish on the lower half. Its thorax is olivaceous, suffused with golden reddish-brown. The base of its hindwings has a moderately broad dark reddish-brown mark. Its abdomen is olivaceous, fading to ochreous toward the anal end, and marked with black. Segments 4 to 9 have black wedge-shaped dorsal spots at both the apical and basal ends. This species breeds in weedy ponds and lakes. Males are often seen patrolling over water and rarely perch; when they do perch, they prefer to hang vertically on twigs inside dense shrubbery.
