Its distribution ranges from Newfoundland to British Columbia, and extends south in eastern North America to the Gulf states. It inhabits deciduous and mixed-wood forests. The wingspan of adult moths measures 16 to 18 mm. In the northern parts of its range, this species produces one generation per year, while populations further south may have two generations annually.
